Persecution Remains for Christians

Persecution has been a constant for the Universal Church. Though we in America and other western countries may escape its darker side, many of our brothers and sisters in Christ around the world still suffer for the name of Jesus.

In an article published by Christian Today an estimated 250 million Christians will face some persecution in 2007. Here is a quote from the article:

New research found that governments in even moderate Muslim countries often fail to safeguard the rights of their Christian minorities, which results in Christians suffering from kidnapping, forced conversion, imprisonment, church destruction, torture, rape and execution.

As this new year continues on let us remember our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering because of the commitment they have made to follow Jesus. Let them be on our hearts and minds. Remember what the Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 12:26; "If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad" (NLT).
